building. Reckoning on a revenue of $30,000 per annum the resumption will also be paid for in a comparatively short space

of time.

The Honourable Director of Public Works

has already ear-marked these houses for resumption I believe. I

therefore strongly recommend that the question of resuming the

4 houses be referred to him for consideration at an early date

1.e. before any steps have been taken to prepare plans for re-

-building them and that if possible this entire area be taken

over by Government.

The callapse of the 3 houses has entailed

thaødemolition of a latrine and kitchen within the market

both of which are Gore nment property and which it will be

waste of money to rebuild in any case. The rebuilding of the

market might therefore be hastened and work commenced on this,

the Eastern portion first, the empty space on the west side

being made temporarily available for the stall-holders ejected

from the Eastern portion.
